The Newsletter of the Callanish School of Celtic Arts

Dear Students and Parents,

Competition season is in full swing and the dancers are busy perfecting their moves for a successful year. Please make sure that you read all entry forms thoroughly and send in the correct items. All dancers, with the exception of Larissa Kortis and Cassidy Savage, are considered "pre-premier dancers". Most events also require a self addressed stamped envelope in order for you to receive your dancer’s entry pass. As many of you know, I will no longer be purchasing items for dancers. You will find a complete list of where I buy items on the back side of the newsletter. It will be up to individuals to purchase CDs, ghillies, etc. from now on. I may have a few pairs of stray ghillies left for sale, but that is all.

Mòran Taing,

Maggie Carchrie

Memorial Day Parade

The Callanish Dancers will be marching in the Town of Yarmouth Memorial Day Parade. Please meet in the Stop & Shop parking lot located on Long Pond Drive, off of Route 28, in S. Yarmouth. Dancers should arrive at 10 AM dressed in their kilts. The parade begins at 10:30 and concludes with a ceremony at 11 in front of the Town Hall.

Car Wash Slated

Our annual car wash is scheduled for Saturday, June 29th from 9-2 PM at the Yarmouth Town Hall, Route 28, W. Yarmouth. Details to follow in June.

Please Note:

Callanish Families and Dancers should wear their school t-shirts to any of the spring events planned like the car wash, yard sale and school trip to RI. This will help to show our school spirit and to identify us as a group i.e. who to pay at the yard sale etc.

School Trip Planned

On Saturday, May 18th the Callanish School will be taking its annual trip to the Rhode Island Highland Games in Westerly, RI. Most dancers will be competing between 9-11 AM. Please show your support and come down for the day even if your child does not compete. Complete directions can be found online at www.riscot.org.

Yard Sale

The 3rd Annual Callanish Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 25th from 9 AM – 4 PM at the Carchrie’s, 85 Camp Street, Hyannis. Please start gathering your unwanted items for the sale. Maggie will be handing out price tags to mark your items ahead of time. Items can be dropped off during class and placed in Maggie’s van or at the Carchrie’s the night before. We are in desperate need of folding tables! If you have any, please consider letting us use them for the sale. We will need some extra help with clean up afterwards, so even if you can’t come to the sale but are available around 4 PM, please stop by. If anyone is willing to make a dump run with their truck or bring stuff to the Goodwill, please let Maggie know. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of new Highland vests for the girls and jackets for the boys.

Addendum:

Due to a last minute invitation to perform in Virginia, Maggie will not be teaching class on Friday, June 7th. Instead, Colleen Anderson and Anna Fulcher will be teaching the Friday classes together on the 7th.

Hats Off!

Congratulations to the following dancers who earned medals at April 20th Competition in Shrewsbury, MA:
