The Newsletter of the Callanish School of Celtic Arts

Dear Students and Parents,

Spring is here and the Callanish School is in full swing with lessons, competitions and shows. Please stay tuned on e-mail for updates such as driving directions and other details. May has traditionally been our big fundraising month for the school, so please do your part to help out with the yard sale, Tupperware sale and performing at the gigs. We are also looking for a place to hold a car wash. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! The summer schedule for dance and fiddle will be ready by the end of this month. Please read your newsletter carefully because I periodically update things under headings that have appeared in previous issues.

Mòran Taing,

Maggie Carchrie

Gaelic Lessons Slated

Beginning in May, Thomas Leigh will start-up a new Gaelic I class at the Sandwich Community School. The class will meet from 6:00-7:30 PM beginning on Monday, May 5th.

Please Note:

Miss Colleen will be teaching dance class on Thursday, May 15th and Maggie’s Mom, Mary, will be teaching the singing class that day. Maggie and Thomas will be performing near Pittsburg, PA that weekend at a huge Highland Games and will need to be on the road Thursday afternoon.

Scotland Trip Postponed

Due to recent world events, our trip to Scotland in 2004 has been postponed. Alternative plans have been made to take our school trip to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia during the last week of June, 2004. Any interested students and parents will be attending the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts to take lessons together. Anyone else interested in attending, but not studying, will be site-seeing during the day. We also hope to attend a highland games on the way home in Halifax, NS. If you are interested in attending this trip, please make sure that Maggie has a $100 refundable deposit from each interested person by July 1st.

Yard Sale Slated

Our 4th Annual Callanish Yard sale will take place on Saturday, May 24th from 9-4 PM at Maggie’s house in Sandwich. Maggie will be handing out price tags and stickers. Please price your items and either load them into Maggie’s car during lessons or arrange to bring them to her house. We will also need tables and volunteers to work that day and make dump runs and trips to the Good Will. Please make sure that you sign up for a job that day. Proceeds will go towards the purchase of outfits.

May is Tupperware Month

As in years past, May is Tupperware month. Maggie will be handing out catalogs and forms to all students during the first week of the month. All of the forms are due by Thursday, May 17th. Projected delivery date is June 6th. This is a great fundraiser for the school as we get to keep 25% of what we sell and who doesn’t use Tupperware! There are also some nice fundraising incentives set up by our Tupperware lady, Gina Wing, like a free water bottle (great for dance classes) and gift certificates. So please, let everyone you know see the catalog!
