The Newsletter of the Callanish School of Celtic Arts
Dear Students and Parents,
The summer session is coming to a close. Fall dance lessons will commence on Friday, September 5th for Friday dancers and Monday, September 8th for Monday dancers. Fiddle will begin on its new day, Wednesdays, on October 8th. Please see me early to schedule your private fiddle and dance lessons as spaces are filling fast. Also, make sure that your tuition is paid in full by your last lesson in August!
Mòran Taing,
Maggie Carchrie
A Sad Good-Bye . . .
The Callanish School lost a very promising dancer this month, Meghan Johnson. She and her family will be moving to Northern California later this month where her father will be starting a new job. If any dancers have photos of Meghan and/or the dance troupe, please bring them into class. We will be making a memory book and mailing it to her new house. Maggie has hopes that somehow the School could fly Meghan and her Mom back east for our Winter Fling the end of January. If anyone has frequent flier miles that they would like to donate, please let Maggie know.
Summer Make-Up Lessons
The following is a schedule of make up lessons for absences during the summer session:
- Tuesday, August 26th: Fiddle make-up for Lissa’s absence in July. All students will follow August 19th schedule.
- Monday, September 1st 5-6 PM: Scottish Dance II, III & Intermediate Dancers. List of eligible Dancers TBA. Please let Maggie know whether you will be attending or not.
An Important Note:
The Callanish School will no longer be using the Yarmouthport Congregational Church for dance lessons. Therefore, several smaller dance classes will be held at Maggie’s house in Sandwich. Since intermediate highland dancers will now only have class one time per week, ALL class members MUST take a 30-60 minute private lesson each week, either on Mondays in W. Barnstable or at Maggie’s house on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Gaelic Lessons to Begin
Gaelic Lessons with Thomas Leigh will begin again at the Sandwich Community School on Monday, September 8th. The beginner class will meet from 6-7:30 PM. Please register through the SCS.
